A lesson to turn off the sound on your phone before you go to bed
05.15am, Moscow time. Bing. Bing. Bing. I was dreaming and remember it the dream. Don’t worry, it was clean. It was raining and I was watching Gaelic Football in Waterford. It wasn’t really raining, more drizzle or haze or whatever the Sunny Southeast gets of a Summer. Anyway, it was a memory of 2019 and the World Games. I didn’t want to wake but it was already light so it could be 6am, my wake up time. It was 05.18am, on a Tuesday. I looked at the phone, three Whatsapp messages from 3 different people, one just a number, two with names. I will admit, the messages arrived in from 05.15am to 05.17am, I was reluctant to wake.
Each was identical. Text of a media release, plus photos, hashtags and a link for videos. I went to the kitchen, opened my laptop and looked through the messages. Identical. All identical. I went on Twitter, a dam that had been threatened over and over by Kiev was destroyed. Gone, water flooding. Chaos. I looked at Google maps, shite, the nuclear power plant in Zaporozhye. Nuts, Dnepropetrovsk, it’d be flooded, Kherson too. Last October Kiev’s forces tried to blow it up, now they’d bloody gone and done it. I went back to the media release. What? Russia did it?
We are to believe that:
Russia blew up their own pipeline - Nord Stream (yesterday the Washington Post claim Ukraine had planned it as early as June and the CIA knew)
Ukraine were not on a counteroffensive and wasting lives (yesterday they admitted that they were, 24 hours after saying they weren’t)
Russia killed two innocent souls in Poland with a rocket (Joe Biden, in Bali, said it wasn’t Russia, Ukraine eventually had to accept the blame)
Russian troops have been shelling themselves inside a nuclear power plant (the IAEA have pointed out that this is untrue)
There are no nazis in Ukraine (yesterday the NYT were fact-checked by Twitter for claiming the penchant for nazi symbols could be used by Russia for propaganda and the lads and lassies with the tattoos etc were unaware of their meaning)
Russians blew up a young woman and blogger (only for Ukraine to claim the “glory” and brag about it)
The Ghost of Kiev was real (there are US and EU politicians who still have the tweets pinned)
Snake Island was real (Russia f off….is still used as a meme, even though it never happened)
Russians are shelling themselves and killing their own people in Belgorod (Ukraine bragged about it after global media repeated Kiev’s initial dismissal, with over 500 rockets fired into the area since Friday)
And on, and on, and on, and on. Say anything, ANYTHING about Russia and it will be believed. Putin is autistic, had a stroke, cancer, Parkinsons…..whatever you say, any old shite, it will be believed and published in tabloids like the Daily Mail, Irish Times and even find their way onto state-run broadcasters like RTE and the BBC. And it’s so damn easy to do. I mean, really, really easy with the right money and people.
The release yesterday claimed Russia did it. Had the military units listed, the explosives used and links to videos that not even Russian media had, some. The hashtags were fresh, new and ready to go. One, #Dnipro , turned up on Irish politicians and MEPs social media. The speed with which it went around shocked me. Michel Barnier, head man in the EC, called it a war crime. One German magazine blamed Russia, then quickly changed their cover when facts began to pour forth faster than the Dnepr river through the busted dam. Some outlets to their immense credit, like DW, CNN and a few others, simply reported the facts. Some of these even raised the hairy question of Ukraine’s regular threats to blow up the dam to render Russian defences useless. The majority of media went with the 5am media release from the laptop of the US-UK pr company who are paid for by NATO to run things in Kiev. It was infuriating, fascinating and hilarious - if there wasn’t animals and humanis suffering.
I’ve not been so forthright on things ‘down there’, I believe, in the past and re-read articles I’ve written here. If last week was a snapping of my patience when CNN & co sneered and insinuated around a person I knew passing, yesterday was an education into how being 1st with your press release and having a compliant, client media meaning everything. Yesterday Cardinal Matteo Zuppi met with Zelensky, if you have time, watch the video and notice the behaviour of the Kiev lads. Zelensky ran the Papal peace envoy out of town, telling that it’s his way or the highway. Peace is not an option for Volodya. He talks peace, he dies. Worse, his wife and kids are marked for death too.
If you’ve watched that video, there are 2 more to look at, both from the same scene. Here the Ukraine leader meets his counterpart from India (Modi). Modi speaks in Hindi, yet Volodya, without a translator or ear piece, nods understandingly and scribbles notes. Because he knows it will get the Hollywood (or in that case Bollywood) treatment with a music track overlaying it. Every meeting he has gets the same treatment. Russia Today (RT) come up with some awful claptrap and maybe even more than the BBC, not counting BBC World Service, but every so often they throw up gold nuggets. Their Indian channel took the scene between the 2 men apart because Asia, Africa & South America also did. It was an open goal, but the US-UK-EU axis just put out the polished version. Instead of letting people ask questions and think, they hid the truth with an cheesy mp3 track.
All leaders do their nonsense stuff that is carefully cut and planned. They have to. Otherwise we have a lad sitting on the grass picking his nose, or coming into the coronation of a foreign king, picking his nose. Boris Johnson made a habit of ‘jogging’ the last 200m to his hotels so media would have content. He dressed madly to deflect from his behaviour, hair the same. What’s coming from Kiev’s highly paid pr agency - is cosmic level brilliance. I’ve promised myself, today once I hit send on this, that I will go on a sports media diet for the next 5 days. No news, nothing, I don’t need it. I’ll watch West Ham try win a European final tonight. Watch GAA at the weekend. I mean, sports is just wholesome, decent and no catches or hypocrisy. None, none at all. Hold on, what? The Professional Golfers Association of America are merging with Saudi Arabia’s LIV Golf? The one they, the PGA, and their lackeys like Rory McIlroy sneered and jeered at? The one the sports and news media sneered and jeered at?
Ah for f…….
Dear Alan,
THANK YOU SO MUCH for your news from Moscow. Being isolated and confronted for one single reason: Because ILOVE RUSSIA AND THE RUSSIAN PEOPLE And, what makes it worse, being confronted even by people who I thought would rather support me than some snake-oil doctors from Kiev, or Washington your blog is like a vitamin, a re-assurance that I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE. And as they have bombarded the dam on the Dniepr, very soon they will break their own Media Dam. The Washington Post this week was but the first swallow, the wind of change is finally blowing…
